Buying real estate is a complex matter and can be especially confusing for the first-time homebuyer. Do yourself a favor and learn as much about the process as you can before you begin. There are plenty of resources on the Internet, and most real estate offices will have pamphlets to explain things in regular, plain language. You may also be able to research the real estate process by attending community-sponsored classes, or you can visit your local library to further educate yourself on the process. Your realtor will also be a knowledgeable source of information guiding you through each step and answering your questions. It is what I do for my clients because I believe an informed and well-educated client will make the best housing choice for themselves.
Sellers have unique and challenging obstacles that require the expertise of a Realtor armed with education, experience and knowledge of creative and innovative marketing strategies. Sellers deserve a Realtor who is willing to guide them through this process of transforming their home into a house for sale.
As a buyer, it usually costs nothing to hire a real estate professional to represent your interest in helping you find and purchase a home--your Realtor will likely get a portion of the commission the seller pays to his Realtor. When choosing an agent, get referrals from friends, relatives, and co-workers, and then choose an agent that works well with you and your family to locate the neighborhood and home that meets your particular needs and criteria. Listen to your agent, but make your own decision.
Sellers also should select a Realtor who works well with their personality to insure the selling process is as calm and stressfree as possible. A seller must have confidence in their agent's abilities to effectively market their house. Interviews and referrals from those you trust are definitely advised.
